World Migratory Bird Day

Sunday, 8 May 2022

The day hopes to raise awareness for the extent of bird kills that take place around the world each year. Along the coast of Africa, for example, millions of birds are trapped in nets each year. Bird populations are struggling - the Linnet has lost 50% of its population since 1980.

In the classroom: Visit the official UN website for this project and download the posters.

Visit the Birdwatch Ireland website and see where our migratory birds go to and come from.
