Explorers Education Programme

The Explorers Education Programme™ provides fun lesson plans, resources and activities for primary school teachers to inspire their student’s interest and knowledge in our ocean, marine environment, species and seashores. The Explorers Education Programme™ aims to build on Ireland’s marine and maritime heritage by increasing awareness of the value, opportunities and social benefits of our ocean wealth and identity.

The Explorers Education Programme is supported by the Marine Institute, and is funded under the Marine Research Programme by the Irish Government.

Explorer News

The Explorers Education officer and other Explorer participants provide regular updates about our oceans, as well as some fun lessons, activities and exciting experiments that can be used in class.

 

 

 

 

Explorer School Modules

The Explorers Education Programme offers modules to primary school students and teachers, so they can get involved in marine projects, seashores safaris, having aquariums in the class, and taking part in a number of exciting marine workshops.

 

 

 

Explorer Lesson Plans

The Explorer lesson plans and activities aim to integrate marine themes into strands taught in primary schools. The lessons plans are based on the Irish NCCA Primary School Curriculum including Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE) which are presented through Science, Geography and History. Additional subjects include Mathematics, Language, Physical Education and Arts Education which are carried out through Visual Arts, Music and Drama.

Teacher's Resources

The Explorers team have compiled a selection of teachers resources including class presentations, information books and illustrations that can be used with the Explorer lesson plans. These include background information about the seashore and Ireland s marine territory.

 

 

Other Resources

The Explorers team have found a number of marine related resources and websites that can be used to support teaching students about our oceans and the seas around Ireland's coastline.
