Irishmen and Irishwomen: We are here to declare our hopes and wishes for the future of our great nation. We recognise the sacrifices made by the brave insurgents in the 1916 Rising. We will always commemorate their bravery and selflessness. However, some of the leader’s wishes have not yet come to fruition. It is up to our generation to continue their legacy.
In the modern age, our government is plagued with politicians not following through on their promises. This needs to change. We want an Ireland where both men and women receive fair pay according to their skill level at their job. Our government should focus on encouraging foreign companies to set up business in Ireland to increase employment and decrease emigration. We should also make sure that Irish businesses continue to prosper. We should up security across the nation to keep our citizens safe from threats.
In the future we hope that Ireland gets more involved in world affairs and contributes to the ongoing fights against global warming, poverty and disease.
We desire a fit and healthy population. We need more hospitals where patients are treated with respect and care. Regardless of age or status, each person in Ireland will be treated fairly when sick. We need to raise awareness to make sure that people understand the dangers of harmful drug use.
Irish citizens are sleeping in cold damp and unhygienic conditions. We need to construct suitable temporary living conditions and temporary housing. We believe everybody should have a place to call home. Advertisements on television and other media sources should be put in place to encourage wealthy people and businesses to donate to charities. We should build more properties for people to rent or buy.
We believe that every child in Ireland should be entitled to a free and thorough education. We want all of the schools in our country to be fully resourced for all of the pupils. We think that all of the schools in Ireland should have SNAs to help people with disabilities and more resource teachers to help other students who have difficulty in class.
We need to reduce waste and pollution and we need to develop a greener transport system by encouraging more cycling and carpooling. We could use energy more efficiently by switching off appliances when not in use. By doing all of this we could make Ireland a greener country.
The Irish culture and traditions are losing their status, a century after men and women fought and died to keep them alive. People are starting to think of the great Irish language as just a subject in school, but it is much more because it is unique to us and we should be proud of it. Mar a dúirt Pádraig Mac Piarais, "tír gan teanga, tír gan anam". We hope that our national sports, Gaelic football and Hurling, continue to grow in popularity and that more people appreciate Irish Dancing and Irish Music.
For Ireland to be a fairer nation, we need to treat everyone equally, no matter their race, gender or religion. We as a nation should start to appreciate women’s sport in the same way we respect men’s sport.
The children of Ireland are the future. We need to be given every opportunity to live in an Ireland that is fair, safe and healthy. Now the time has come for us to step up and make Ireland a better place for future generations.
