~ # Poblacht na hÉireann 2016 # ~
People of Ireland, we, the pupils and staff of Naíscoil Íde, pay tribute to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for Irish freedom during the Easter Rising 1916. Now in its centenary year, we hereby set out a new vision for Ireland as Pádraig Pearse, James Connolly and their compatriots did in 1916.
Ireland will be a place where everyone is treated fairly and equally, including our children, our future leaders! Everybody will have equal chances in life and a right to a comfortable standard of living, to security and to care.
We promise to respect each other and the world we live in. We will look after our Emerald Isle and the wider planet by recycling, saving water and planting trees and help protect our precious environment for future generations against pollution and climate change.
Everybody will have the right to a home, the right to earn a living in Ireland and the right to a free education. Everyone will be entitled to an education that caters for their emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual and social needs. The vulnerable, poor, homeless and elderly will all be properly cared for.
Ireland will extend a warm welcome to people from other countries who wish to make Ireland their home. The Ireland of the future will be one that cultivates unity, appreciation, kindness, equality, tolerance, friendship and optimism for all citizens regardless of race, faith, culture or colour. Our new multicultural Ireland will encourage our unique customs, culture, traditions, language as our common heritage and which we will safeguard for future generations.
Ireland can be proud of her past, grateful for the present and confident that the future will result in a people united in peace and prosperity. We can look forward because of the the brave men and women who fought a century ago for our independence and gave us the Republic that we have today. We hope we can build on their achievements and generate a society of which we can be justly proud!
The following people from our school community worked on producing our New Proclamation.
