We, the pupils of Culfadda National School in 2016 wish to show respect to God and to all our ancestors from whom we have received our life, our faith, our traditions and our freedom by stating our beliefs for a better Ireland and so continue the work begun by our forefathers.
We believe that everyone should be treated fairly no matter what race, religion or gender. We should not be prejudiced.
§ We believe that everyone should have a place to call home, enough food to eat and a warm bed to lie in.
§ We believe that all citizens should feel safe and secure in their own home and country. We believe our people should be treated justly and that we should strive for a country in which there is no injustice, only a peaceful nation.
§ We believe that every person, no matter their race, religion or creed should get an equal opportunity to receive the best education. This will, in turn, help our economy and create more jobs in the future.
§ We believe that everyone in the country should get equal pay for equal work, no matter what their nationality.
§ We believe that all Irish citizens are entitled to stable and reliable jobs where everybody is treated fairly and with respect. We believe that investing in Irish produce and supporting small businesses will help the economy prosper and will help our country become the Ireland that the people of 1916 dreamed of.
§ We believe that refugees should be welcomed and treated with respect. They should receive a good education, be offered jobs and allowed own their own property.
§ We believe that Ireland should have a better health system so people won’t be left on trolleys. This can happen by expanding hospitals and employing the best staff. We can also help those whose voices can’t be heard such as the elderly, the challenged and the homeless.
§ We believe that everyone in the country should exercise for a minimum of two hours a week so that we will have a fit and healthy people.
§ We believe that we should keep the Irish culture alive, by speaking some Irish everyday. “Is fearr Gaeilge briste ná Bearla cliste”. We should continue to celebrate many important festivals in our culture such as St Patrick’s Day and the Fleadh, where we can display our music and our dance. It is also important that we play our traditional sports.
§ We believe that by respecting our environment we can play a vital role in protecting our country and our world for future generations.
The following people from our school community worked on producing our New Proclamation.
