Notice Nature

Public awareness campaign around the importance of biodiversity from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The Learn section covers information on biodiversity, the threats to it and an excellent glossary of terms. The atlas of mammals and the winter surveys are all relevent to class. A Junior section covers the topic for lower Primary.

  • recognise and investigate human activities which may have positive or adverse effects on local and wider environments
  • recognise how the actions of people may have an impact on environments

Why is it Resource of the Week?

  • World Environment Day is coming on Wednesday June 4th, so the resource could be used in class to highlight aspects of biodiversity.
  • It is a useful resource to use for cross-curricular teaching in SESS Geography and Science.
  • The Atlas of Mammals in Ireland could be used as a template for a study of mammals in your locality.
