A Poem for Ireland

Post-Primary poetry competition in which students write a poem about Ireland - past or present.

There are three levels to the competition:

Schools level - students are encouraged to write poems from which a winner is chosen for each year. the winners are then submitted to the local public library before March 4.

County level - the winning poem from each year is adjudged by a panal from the local library service and an overall winner chosen.

National level - county winners will be shortlisted to eight poems and winners chosen.

Prizes: National Winner: €1,000; National Runner Up: €500; National 3rd prize: €250; National Finalists: €50 vouchers.

The competition is organised by the Department of Education and Skills, the Public Library Service and Libraries Development, and the Local Government Management Agency.
