Irish Film Institute Resources Available to Schools

The Irish Film Institute (IFI) has used their streaming platform to bring teachers and students a new film called "Waiting, Waiting, Waiting" about people in Direct Provision.

This short film made by young people from Youth Work Ireland's Member Youth Services, gives voice to the lived experiences of Direct Provision. The film threads multiple voices from varying perspectives together, to express the overarching themes of frustration, helplessness and hope felt by young people growing up in Direct Provision Centres in Ireland today.

The 10 minute film features 9 young people aged between 14 and 24 who have lived, or are living in Direct Provision Centres in Cork, Limerick and Longford. The film is an empowering and moving narrative that evokes empathy and understanding. Classroom resources are available to download from the streaming page. It is also available on Scoilnet.

Additionally, IFI now has Wellbeing film bundles available - they're recommended to be used as a touchpoint for discussions on friendship, mental resilience and wellbeing. The offer is available for the month of January, but the films can be watched anytime between now and June 2023. Purchase link is here: https://www.ifischools.ie/passes/buy
