Numeracy Deep Dive Project

Thinking about participating in the Numeracy Deep Dive Project with PDST? Registration is now open for the 2021/22 run of Numeracy Deep Dive.

The Numeracy Deep Dive Project encourages teachers of mathematics and other subjects develop numeracy competency in their schools. The purpose of the project is to explore how numeracy can be integrated in a meaningful and constructive manner in a range of carrier subjects at post-primary and how these subjects can, in turn, influence the manner in which relevant concepts can be addressed in mathematics lessons.

The project involves a PDST Advisor and a pair of teachers, one Mathematics and one from a so-called carrier subject, collaborating in lesson design with a particular focus on developing numerical understanding across the subjects.

Over the past three years, the project has resulted in positive outcomes including motivational gains by students who perceived Mathematics to be challenging. It has also led to an increased student capacity to self-assess and to transfer and apply ideas across Mathematics and the carrier subject. Professional learning through collaboration with colleagues leads to deeper under-standing of the numeracy of carrier subjects and how best to support those subjects in a Mathematics classroom.

Register your interest at https://tinyurl.com/NumeracyDeepDive for the 2021/22 run of Numeracy Deep Dive.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis so book early to avoid disappointment.
