Open to Transition Year students!
The annual Roger Casement Essay Competition, which is sponsored by the Lexicon Library (Dun Laoghaire), the Blackrock Education Centre and the Roger Casement Summer School, commences on Monday 14th October. The competition, now in its third year, is open to Transition Year students in the catchment area of the Blackrock Education Centre (South Dublin and North Wicklow).
Competition opens – Monday 14 October
Deadline – Friday 13 December
Prize-giving – Monday 13 January 2025.
Competition rules
Entries can be in English or Irish and should reflect the wording of the title: Why should Roger Casement be remembered in 21st century Ireland?
The essay should have a maximum of 2,000 words.
Entries should be double spaced and use the Times New Roman font. They should be sent by email to casementschool@gmail.com before the deadline of 4 pm on Friday 13 December 2024.
Criteria for the Essay
Comprehensive coverage of Casement’s life (40%)
Understanding of 21st century needs (10%)
Persuasiveness of case made and quality of writing (20%)
Use of at least three sources (6%)
Ease of readability (14%)
Quality of essay structure (5%)
Proof reading and grammar (5%)
