In the Oral Irish Examination, there will be twenty A4 pages of pictures with a series of six pictures on each page. The candidate will choose at random one from the twenty series in the examination. The candidate will be given a short preparation time.
There will be two parts in this section:
(i) Descriptive account from the candidate on the series of pictures on the chosen A4 page. The examiner will guide the candidate to ensure that the narrative discourse proceeds through the six pictures within the time-frame.
(ii) Interaction between the examiner and the candidate. It is intended that the candidate and the
examiner will ask one another questions about the subject matter of the particular series.
It should be noted that the candidate’s ability will be assessed on both the descriptive narration and the questions asked and answered by the candidate.
The set of twenty picture sequences which will be used for the Oral Irish Examination 2021 can downloaded from the State Examinations website here.
