An excellent interactive animation for students to explore deep questions within their groups. Students can click on the Earth and rotate the Earth through day and night. There is a man on the Earth which allows students to think in terms of what is happening on the Earth and what they see from Earth. Students can also adjust the moon phases, the horizon diagram, add angles, landmarks, ticks, change speed of animation, control the time and watch the moon orbit around Earth.
Strand: 02. Earth and Space
Strand unit: 04. Model of Earth-Sun-Moon System
Suggestions for use: Provide students with a tablet to use in groups of four. Set the animation onto each tablet prior to lesson. Students use the animation to discuss the features of the moon and the phases of the moon. Groups will need to present a poster to the class on their groups findings from using the animation.
