A comprehensive resource to teach children about nutrition, food waste and global hunger. Comprises 11 lessons which can be taught as a full unit of work, or pick and choose lessons to suit you. Developed in consultation with teachers it includes detailed lesson plans and resources. Topics including Nutrition, Reading Food Labels, Food Waste and Hunger in our World.

  • realise and begin to understand the unequal distribution of the world’s resources

Suggestions for use: Each section focuses on a different topic. Section one focuses on nutrition, the ‘food pyramid and food waste. Section two explores the impact of hunger worldwide – the who, where and why of hunger. Section three examines how we can contribute to ending hunger.

This resource should enable a child to:

  • become aware of the causes and effects of famine
  • come to appreciate the inequalities between the developed and the developing world
  • discuss possible short and long-term solutions to famine
  • examine the work of relief agencies and become aware of Irish involvement in them
