This worksheet takes the students through Chapter 1, examining how the author establishes setting, character and relationships. It also looks at the use of first person narrator and cliffhangers.

Suggestions for use: Working individually or in groups the students use the worksheet to complete a close reading of Chapter 1 identifying the setting, narrator, main character, secondary characters, relationships and the use of narrators. This could be used as part of the initial reading, as a revision exercise or as a prompt for a writing exercise.
