Edpuzzle: 'L'Arlésienne Suite No 2', Movement 4 - Georges Bizet

Added: 26 Sep 2020 Contributor: PDST Resource type: Assessment / Audio / Video

The farandole from a suite by Bizet is a fast movement. The conductor is Herbert von Karajan. It used to be a set work on the old JC course but now works very well as a vehicle for preparing Senior Cycle students for the Aural Skills question on the Listening paper.

How it maps to the curriculum

SC
Music

Strand: Aural Skills

Suggestions for use: Senior Cycle students may not have heard of a farandole before, so it would be a good idea to let them hear one in advance of doing this activity. This piece tests the learners' ability to recognise instruments and instrumental techniques, tonality, melodic features, polyphonic textures and music terminology.
