Ballyshannon National Schools website is very simple and easily navigational. It is immediately clear that it is updated regularly and that the school and its students have been recipients of many awards. There is information about the different classes and class levels. It is clear from the outset what the schools ethos is and that the school staff support a creative, fun and safe learning environment.
There is a very useful calendar facility on this site which not only acts as reminders for parents and guardians but also as a record of the fantastic ongoing activities. The calendar is created using Google services. This allows parents and guardians to copy these calendar entries to their own Google calendars within Gmail. Also useful to parents, is information available on this site about extra-curricular activities and the before and after school service, Sherpa Kids.
Here at Scoilnet we liked that each classroom was given a name rather than their class level to describe them. There are images of the classes work and classroom displays on the site. The infant class are in the Rainbow Room, first and second class are in the Sunshine Room, third and fourth class are in the Young Explorers’ Room and fifth and sixth class are in the Wise Owls’ Room.
Two other nice features on this site are the copies of the school polices and the useful links sections. Both of these can be easily accessed by parents and support them in their roles in their child’s education.
Congratulations to Ballyshannon National School. Not only are they the recipients of Scoilnet’s Star Site Award they have also been awarded the active schools flag and the green flag.
Scoilnet's much-coveted Star Site award recognises those schools that are embracing the web as a communication tool.
