The tallest round tower in all of Ireland can be seen in Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny. It stands 32 metres tall. There are 9 windows in total, 6 angle headed and 3 lintel. 4 of the angel headed are on the top facing the four cardinal points.Only part of the cap remains and the door at the bottom is 3.3 metres above ground level.
It is bady damaged as a local farmer removed the stones to construct a fireplace, mistakingly believing them to be fire proof. St. Kieran founded the monastery here in the 6th century. Vikings raided it in 861A.D. and in 1156 A.D. the high king MacNeil burned the tower.
