In this strand, students are introduced to the practical aspects of dog ownership. There are opportunities for students to reach out to the local community as they learn about health and hygiene, healthy diets for dogs and how much it costs to own one. Here are some sample lesson activities created and shared by L2LP teacher, Melanie Mc Inerney.

This is a roleplay lesson. There is a video of a 999 or 112 call. The teacher must adapt it slightly and suggest how it can apply to an emergency with a dog. They can then look at the different cards and follow the instructions on the PDF to roleplay the scenario. In the roleplay, one student is the operator and the other student is the person calling. The cards act as prompts during the roleplay.
