Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, has sent its acclaimed art collection to Ireland in 2018. The works will go to Dublin Castle, Skibbereen and Derry for the exhibition Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger.
On this page you will find an interactive guide of the exhibition based on descriptions of the artwork kindly provided by Niamh O'Sullivan (Curator/Professor Emeritus). The descriptions are pitched at a fifth and sixth class level. Links to Post Primary resources can be found at the bottom of this page. The position of the artwork in the guide roughly reflects the layout of the James O'Driscoll gallery in the West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen.
You will also find YouTube videos of Ireland's Great Hunger Museum in Connecticut, a PowerPoint presentation on the Famine in general and a PDF version of the interactive guide.
