This manual has been designed by members of the Professional Development Service for Teachers. The aim of this Teacher’s Handbook is to assist teachers in teaching the strand of Measures (infants to 6th
class). This comprises the Strand Units of Length, Area, Weight, Capacity, Time and Money. This resource is
intended to complement and support the implementation of the Primary School Mathematics Curriculum
(PSMC) rather than replace it.

To use this worksheet the child/group/class will need 5 Easter Eggs in boxes, this could work nicely as one station in your Maths lesson. The same 5 eggs can move to a different group each day. The child is asked to list the eggs by weight, identify any 2D/3D shapes they see on the boxes, identify which they found most appealing and why. The are also asked to explore the dates bought and the sell by dates, to measure the boxes and perimeter, use a calendar and find data from a bar chart.
