Ukulele as a Pedagogic Tool

Added: 01 Oct 2020 Contributor: PDST Resource type: Guide/notes / Presentation / Scheme Of Work

These activities explore different aspects of music, through the medium of the ukulele. The theory includes the chords used in a round, the development of a bass line and the scaffolded completion of a Leaving Cert harmony question (Q5).

How it maps to the curriculum

SC
Music

Strand: Harmony

Suggestions for use: These slides tackle Question 5 on the Leaving Cert Composing paper, by adopting a music-making approach. The author uses vocal performance, ukulele playing and the analysis of a pop song by Fun ('Some Nights') to bring the harmony question to life. A knowledge of the chords C, F and G is sufficient to undertake the composing and performing activities.
