Solar System Facts and Astronomy

Added: 28 May 2014 Contributor: Scoilnet Resource type: Guide/notes

Child friendly information on planets, moons and the solar system from a student in Ireland. The site was begun when the student was 9-years-old but it is very informative and the short pieces of information will appeal to students. (Contains some advertising.)

How it maps to the curriculum

5-6
SESE Geography

Strand: Natural Environments

Strand unit: Planet Earth in Space

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • recognise a few of the major star constellations
  • recognise that the Earth, its moon, the sun, other planets and their satellites are separate bodies and are parts of the solar system

Suggestions for use: Get students to list the planets in the solar system and to note one point of information about each. This site will provide answers.
