How it maps to the curriculum

5-6
SESE History

Strand: Politics, Conflict & Society

Strand unit: 1916 and the foundation of the state

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • acquire some knowledge of the major personalities, events or developments in these periods
  • begin to develop some appreciation of the ‘mind-set’ of former generations
  • engage in simple studies of some of the more important aspects of periods in which political changes or movements have had an important influence on the lives of people in Ireland

Suggestions for use: Can be used as an example of student work. Also provides an excelent example of historical research by students of events in their locality. Aside from that it is a fascinating study of a less well known historical figure. Were there similar figures in your locality?
