An account of the life of the Moycullen man who was a farmer, Conradh na Gaeilge activist, GAA member and nationalist and examines the circumstances of his death in 1921. Uses primary and secondary source material. The essay also compares life in the Co Galway village now with the time around the War of Independence.
This essay was a winning entry from Scoil Mhuire Moycullen in the ‘Decade of Centenaries’ All-Island Schools History Competition 2014 organised jointly by the Departments of Education in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
