Content objective:

  • explore and experiment with the properties and characteristics of materials in making structures
  • make imaginative structures

Suggestions for use: Sportsmanship in soccer is developed through teamwork so why not introduce team-work into this activity. Give each team an A3 image of the soccer pitch (from link). Find out who the expert soccer fanatics are in each team by allowing the pupils to discuss and write their ideas onto the laminated soccer pitch. Allow one pupil from each group to walk around and feed back to their own group on the ideas other groups have. Demonstrate the rules of the game using a video link and link back to image by displaying the image onto the white-board. Provide each team with a computer/ iPad, nominate a Euro 2016 team for each team to research. (Pupils must clean off laminated pitches) Allow time for groups to research the players on their team and mark the players position onto the image of the pitch. From this activity, you can have a Euro 2016 tournament whereby each group must play the country they researched and as the players they positioned on the soccer pitch. Rule: When playing the soccer tournament, pupils must not call each other by their own names instead using the player they are playing as.
