SESE Science

Strand: Energy & Forces

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • become aware that objects have weight because of the pull of gravity
  • come to appreciate that gravity is a force
  • explore the effect of friction on movement and how it may be used to slow or stop moving objects
  • identify and explore how objects and materials may be moved

Suggestions for use: Use this lesson as a self discovery investigative challenge on the effect of forces on football match. From your art & craft lesson, you should have constructed your football pitch to play on. Set pupils up in pairs. The winner of each match will rotate onto each stadium to play the next person. Winner with most rotation of stadiums is the overall winner. In this task, students have been applying forces and using tactics to overcome forces of their opponent. Subsequently, after the matches are over, get pupils to reflect on the effect of their forces by using the worksheet in pairs. Plenary: Feed back to class and glue worksheet into books for future reference.
