English

Strand: Reading

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • become self-reliant, confident, independent readers, having time in class for sustained, silent reading

Suggestions for use: Teacher divides class into two reading teams. Flip coin to see which team will start reading challenge. Student reads ten words, then passes to other team member, opposition team can then tackle by calling "tackle". By tackling, the opposition ask a question about the paragraph just read (spell a word, meaning of a word, question on piece of information) They must answer question without looking again at the paragraph read, If they cannot answer...they play goes to the opposition team.
