Added: 14 Jul 2016 Contributor: Niamh Mac auley Resource type: Game

Nice games for students to play on maths fractions using PhET. Stduents can choose what level of difficulty they want to challenge. Difficulty levels range from 1 to 8. Students can decide to play the fractions or the mixed numbers.

How it maps to the curriculum

3-4
Mathematics

Strand: Number

Strand unit: Fractions

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • calculate a unit fraction of a number and calculate a number, given a unit fraction of the number
  • compare and order fractions with appropriate denominators and position on the number line
  • identify fractions and equivalent forms of fractions with denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12

Suggestions for use: Set pupils up in pairs sitting across from another pair. Pairs play against each other to see who can match the fractions/mixed numbers together the quickest accurately. Pupils within the pairs can collaborate secretly together. The winners play the winners. The losers play the losers. Difficulty level can be changed for the winners.
