Making Poo: Digestive System Teaching Model

Added: 08 Nov 2016 Contributor: Aoife McDonnell Resource type: Audio / Video

A great hands-on activity to investigate the functions of each part of the digestive system. The video illustrates how a teacher can carry out the demonstration/ guide students in creating a similar model with explanations for each representation. The activity motivates students engaged with the topic along with aiding students memory skills in a fun interactive manner whereby students learn more about their key skills for learning together.

Suggestions for use: Teacher can watch the video/ give the link to students to watch for homework. In class, set class into groups. In groups students need to negotiate and research how they will demonstrate the model of the digestive system to the class. Allow time in class for students to organize their group presentation. In the next lesson, groups must be given individual time to present the model to the class. (Video can be used so groups can reflect on presentation skills). Ensure the class come up to the front and gather around the demonstration area while the group present their model to the class and explain the analogies to the class.
