In six spectacular episodes, The Great Irish Fishing Adventure is the story of the seas around this island, told for the first time on television in an all-action, accessible and aspirational format that introduces the STEM disciplines to the largest television audience in Ireland with accompanying bespoke videos (10 x 10 minutues) for educational resource portal, Scoilnet .
Ireland is one of the world’s great sea angling destinations. The island sits on the edge of the European continental shelf, where the inshore waters are warmed by the North Atlantic Drift and the coastline is among the most varied and spectacular in the northern hemisphere. It all contributes to producing a marine environment that’s extremely rich, varied and globally significant.

Sea fishing has an inherent sense of adventure - you have no idea what you might encounter and what mysteries may await you on the ocean. The viewer will be introduced to the extraordinary range of fish species that inhabit the waters around Ireland.
The Great Irish Fishing Adventure is a blend of the old and the new - it’s where classical public service story telling (Inform Educate Entertain), meets the very latest in camera and editing technologies to present fishing as it’s never been shown on television before. This is also where factual entertainment meets educational television.
At all times during the shooting of this series fish will be handled according to international best practice. Great care will be taken to allow the fish to fully recover before release. Great attention will be paid to weather and water conditions on each day of the shoot – air temperature, water temperature, intensity of sunshine etc.
The Great Irish Fishing Adventure requires an extensive research, scripting and preproduction phase and these are all activities that can be executed with the producer, director, consultants and prospective cast members working in their respective homes and offices and we already have the communications infrastructure in place to carry out this work in isolation. We don’t forsee the need to shoot any interviews for the series for several months and we will use the intervening period to ensure we as a film crew will be fully prepared and equipped to work within the National Emergency requirements according to the restrictions that will be in place at the required time.
