This series of handouts link the theoretical work of the courses key thinkers to key topics namely: Power and decision making, education, Class and Gender equality, education and culture and identity. This handout is on Thomas Hobbes and offers students a start point when considering the key thinkers position on each of the above topics.
Strand: 1. Power & Decision Making: School
Strand unit: Topic 1: General Resources
Suggestions for use: Hobbes is a key thinker linked with many of the strands on the course but most relevant in strand 1 and 2. This handout helps students link his work and ideas with topics that they will encounter in these and other strands. It would be advised students keep this handout in their folders for reference during the rest of the course when the ideas of the thinker become relevant in other contexts and even in assessment.
