A simple game whereby pupils need to look at an object and then select the correct initial sound.
Covers the sounds j, z, x, v, y, qu, w.
If the wrong initial sound is selected, a sad face is displayed and you are returned to the image slide to choose again.
Once the correct sound is selected, a happy face is displayed and you can progress to the next slide.
Strand: Reading
Strand unit: Competence and Confidence in Using Language
Suggestions for use: Use this game after having taught the following phonemes: j, z, x, y, v, w, qu to reinforce teaching and learning objectives. Can be used as an informal assessment tool: teacher can record pupil responses whilst playing the game with the full class. As the game is self-correcting, pupils can play it independently. It could therefore be played during station teaching, e.g. using iPads/tablets or laptops during literacy hour.
