Major changes have occurred in the tram network over the last century. This story looks at the old Dublin and Blessington Steam Tram and the new modern tram system known as the Luas.

There are two Luas lines, red and green. Tallaght is located on the red luas line. In July 2011, the red line was extended by 4.5km, with five new stops to Saggart. There are presently 32 stops on the red line and 22 on the green line. The Luas lines are currently being extended so that the red and green lines connect. Work on this started in 2013 and is expected to be finished by the end of 2017.
