  • Video 1 - Overview of O'Harte's Dairy Farm
    Tommy O’ Harte and farm manager, Eddie Courtney give an overview of their current dairy farm enterprise. Tommy discusses his journey into switching to an automated dairy system in 2021 with a herd of purebred Fleckvieh cows. 
  • Video 2 - Breeding and Genetics on the Farm
    Tommy discusses the reasons why he chose the Fleckvieh breed for his dairy enterprise.  Describing them as the “hassle free” cows he outlines their many traits and characteristics.  Eddie describes how they use AI to service all the cows in their herd and Tommy shows his best dairy cow and shares his plans to spread her genes more across the herd. 
  • Video 3 - Nutrition on the Farm
    Whilst the Lely Vector automatic robot feeds the cows, Eddie outlines the ingredients they use in their TMR (Total Mixed Ration) and explains why they have opted for an indoor system based on forage from their land base harvested in four cuts of silage per year.  Tommy outlines the important role played by the farm nutritionist and the Lely Horizon app to ensure feed type and quantity maximises output whilst favouring home sourced ingredients.  Care and feeding of calves is also explored in this video.
  • Video 4 - Food Production on the Farm
    Tommy outlines how they strive to maximise the different revenue streams from the farm including the quantity of milk produced, the quantity of solids (protein and fat) in the milk, bull calves suitable for beef rearing and the suitability of cows that they cull from the herd for the beef market.

    Pat & John Lalor give an overview of their Organic farm and Organic Food business. Pat discusses his journey into switching to organic farming in 1999.

  • Video 3 - Oats
    They discuss seed variety, sowing rates, dates, weeds, pests and harvesting of the crop. John tells us about the off farm enterprises they have and the process to making these products.
  • Video 4 - Red Clover
    Pat discusses the importance of the Red clover crop to his rotation on the farm. He discusses how they make red clover silage and how they mulch excess back in to the soil to help the soil biology. John talks about the ensiling process for red clover silage.
  • Video 5 - Beef Enterprise
    Pat talks about the beef enterprise on his farm. He discusses where he sources his cattle from and the breeds he likes to keep on his farm. Pat also talks about the markets  and where he sells his organic beef. John discusses the importance of the beef enterprise to their tillage enterprise and also talks about welfare of the animals on an organic beef farm.
